2 bat volunteers from the Czech Republic visited Kharkiv Bat Rehab Center

Biology students – Tereza Jakova and Tereza Paskova – from the Czech Republic arrived in Kharkiv to have a 10-day practical training at the Bat Rehabilitation Center of Feldman Ecopark. Both girls study at the department of natural sciences in the Palacký University (Olomouc, Czech Republic). Kharkiv was selected because only it is possible to find East Europe’s only centre dealing with not only study, but also rescue of Red List bats.

“We were recommended to come to the Bat Rehabilitation Center of Feldman Ecopark by our teacher, who knows the head of the Centre Anton Vlashchenko well. For us, it is an opportunity to study some species of bats, which cannot be found in the Czech Republic, and we also want to obtain practical skills in bats maintenance and care,” the future zoologist Tereza Paskova told.

Moreover, according to the workers at the Bat Rehabilitation Center, visitors from the Czech Republic take part in animal protection activities of the Centre as volunteers. Considering the number of rescued animals, the experience of the Centre is unique even for European counterparts.

The girls took an active part in the work with bats: they respond to a calls of citizens together with experts, help to feed animals, assist in current researches. On 2 of February, we had a seminar about bat rehabilitation and research, where Terezas and our bat-researchers shared their knowledge and skills.
