On 15-16 of July 2023, the team of our Ukrainian Bat Rehabilitation Center, with the support of the IFAW, Wildlife Fund, and Future For Nature, conducted the first workshop ” Bat Rescue and Rehabilitation in Ukraine”. The event gathered 30 bat rehabilitators from 10 cities of Ukraine (Kharkiv, Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Kamyanets-Podilskyi, Kamyanske, Kremenchuk, Kropyvnytskyi), from amateurs and students to professional biologists.
The aim of this meeting was to share the practical experience of our Bat Rehabilitation Center, expand the network of volunteers, and standardize bat rescue protocols.
The Center’s experts presented reports on the specifics of rehabilitation, treatment oh bats, the scientific component, biosecurity, etc. They conducted practical sessions on identifying and measuring bats, carried out field trip with the aim of studying bats using bat detectors and mist net. They also held a round table on how to provide consultations to people contacting the Center and how to properly provide assistance to bats.
We thank everyone who participated and look forward to further cooperation!
We have been planning this workshop for many years, but only implemented it now. Therefore, we thank Ukraine’s Defense Forces for the opportunity to hold this event in such difficult times for our country.
