International Bat Night in Ukraine, 2024

For over 25 years, the International Bat Night has been held in all corners of Europe at the initiative of the Secretariat of the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS, 1991). The goal of this event is to draw public attention to the issue of bat conservation, to inform about these rare animals, their unique role in the ecosystem, and the threats they face.

In 2023 and 2024, the Ukrainian Bat Rehabilitation Centre is taking the initiative to support organisations planning to hold the “International Bat Night in Ukraine.” If you wish to organise an International Bat Night for local communities, youth, or visitors to your institution, we are ready to provide you with free informational and promotional materials (stickers, calendars, posters), a presentation about bats that we have developed, along with an accompanying video by Alona Prylutska. In 2023, 22 nature reserve institutions and museums were supported, and materials and bat houses were sent to them.

Lviv city

On Sunday, 25 August, together with the State Natural History Museum in Lviv, we invite you to join the ecological awareness event “International Bat Night in Ukraine 2024,” where you can learn more about the fascinating world of bats.

From 12:00 to 17:00 in the museum courtyard, the youngest guests and their parents will be able to paint bats, assemble puzzles, learn to make bat-shaped origami, dress up in bat costumes, receive stickers and balloons, examine a special bat house and photo exhibition, and also talk with scientists who study bats.

At 13:00 and 15:00, Alona Prylutska, co-founder of the Ukrainian Bat Rehabilitation Centre and Candidate of Biological Sciences, will present multimedia stories about bats in the Museum’s Scientific Attic. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to observe a live bat up close, listen to its ultrasound, and even watch it being fed insects.

The State Natural History Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is located in Lviv at 18 Teatralna Street.

Photos from last year’s “Bat Night” ecological educational event in Lviv, as well as a video from last year’s event, can be viewed on YouTube. This year’s event will be organised similarly.
