During 2016 in the Bat Rehabilitation Centre (BRC) worked 5 employees, more than 10 young naturalists and volunteers. In August, the BRC has got additional office for lectures.
In 2016 – 1280 bats were rescued from Kharkiv city and 313 animals were transferred to the rehabilitation centre from other regions of Ukraine (Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Lugansk region).
8 000 educational units were printed (flyers, pocket and wall calendars, etc..). In 2016, employees of BRC participated in 2 mass educational campaigns, where presented the work of BRC, distributed printed materials, and answered questions about the bats. In total, these actions involved more than 600 people. 10 lectures about bats were organized for pupils, students and young naturelists, totally involved 300 people.
On April 3, Feldman Ecopark held fourth action “Bat Release Fest”. More than 300 bats were saved during the winter 2015/16. This event was lightened by the press.
In 2016, the BRC spent 12 expeditions lasting from one night up to 8 days. 1300 animals were caught and ringed. Nyctalus lasiopterus was recorded in Kharkiv region,it is the first capture for last 60 years. Work on acoustic identification of bats hunting over ponds of Kharkiv city was continued.
In 2016, employees of BRC published 2 articles and 4 conference abstracts (Vestnik Zoologii и Turkish Journal of Zoology). BRC organized 12 internal workshops in order to increase the professional level of employees, volunteers and naturalists.
In 2016, employees of BRC participated in 3 international (Germany, Poland), one regional and 2 young naturalists conferences; took part in trainning ” Nature interpretation development in Ukraine” and visited EUROBATS office.
